Loch Ness Handcrafted Altar Goddess –

Natural

Infused with authentic water collected from the shores of Loch Ness beneath the historic ruins of Urquhart Castle, Scotland.

A Sacred Companion from the Ancient Waters of the Great Glen

Some places hold a silence that feels older than time.

Loch Ness is one of them.

This handcrafted altar goddess has been created from natural terracotta clay infused with authentic water I personally collected from the shores of Loch Ness, beneath the historic ruins of Urquhart Castle, during my pilgrimage through Scotland in October 2024.

After exploring the ancient castle and taking in its vast view across the loch and surrounding Highlands, we wandered beyond the main paths. Passing ducks moving quietly through the grounds, we discovered a small stone staircase leading down to the water’s edge. There, below the castle walls, I gathered the waters directly from Loch Ness.

Standing at the shoreline was unlike anywhere else. The loch holds a deep, still presence—ancient and difficult to define—as though it has witnessed countless stories that remain hidden beneath its surface.

For over a thousand years, Loch Ness has been a place where legend and landscape are inseparable.

Long before modern stories of the Nessie, the Highlands spoke of shape-shifting water spirits known as Kelpies—beings who could appear as horses or travellers before vanishing beneath the dark water. Another ancient Highland tradition tells of The Cailleach, the great divine hag of winter, whose presence shaped the land itself. In some versions of the myth, her grief transformed her maid Nessa into the River Ness, which then expanded and deepened into the vast body of water now known as Loch Ness.

One of the earliest recorded accounts dates back to AD 565, when St Columba is said to have encountered a water beast in the loch while travelling through the Great Glen. According to tradition, he commanded the creature to depart in the name of faith, leaving behind one of Scotland’s earliest written legends of something living beneath the waters.

Even today, Loch Ness remains one of the most enduring landscapes of mystery in the world—where folklore, history, and imagination continue to coexist.

Guarding these waters are the ruins of Urquhart Castle, once a powerful stronghold at the heart of Highland conflict. For over five centuries, it witnessed battles for control of the Great Glen, passing between clans and kingdoms before its gatehouse was destroyed in 1692 to prevent further military use.

Now in ruin, the castle stands as a symbol of endurance—its stone walls softened by time, overlooking waters that have never lost their depth or presence.

Together, the loch and the castle hold a quiet teaching: that strength is not found in resisting change, but in remaining present through it.

Every goddess carries a fragment of this landscape and its stories.

Not as legend alone, but as depth—where what is unseen still shapes what is felt, and where mystery asks not to be solved, but to be trusted.

More than a small goddess statue, she is designed as a sacred altar companion—a gentle reminder of your intentions, your inner wisdom, and the ancient landscape from which her waters were gathered.

Whether she rests on your altar, beside your journal, accompanies your meditation practice, or travels with you as a pocket goddess tucked safely into your handbag or travel bag, she offers a quiet connection to grounding, resilience, and the deeper currents beneath life’s surface.

Water Source: Authentic Loch Ness water collected beneath Urquhart Castle, Scotland (October 2024)

Approximate Size: 5.5–6.5 cm high × approximately 2.5 cm wide

Each goddess is individually handcrafted and hand-finished. Some are left in their natural terracotta form finished in a matte glaze, while others are carefully hand-painted using layered dry-brushing techniques that allow the clay to remain visible beneath the finish, giving each piece an aged, ancient character.

Because every goddess is shaped and finished by hand, no two are ever identical, making each one a unique ritual companion.
